Ipanema

Sophisticated district, made famous by the song “Garota de Ipanema”, Ipanema dazzles the visitor by its unique nature: the beach, the beauty of the Dois Irmãos hill and the Rodrigo de Freitas lagoon surrounded by the mountains with the Christ statue looking down on it. The sunset, viewed either from the beach or from the lagoon, is an unforgettable show.

On daytime the beach is the main attraction, along with the surf spectacle at Arpoador. At night the bars, pubs and restaurants are a meeting point for artists, bohemians and for the joyful youth. The sophisticated window displays of the shops make the street commerce look like a vast open space shopping mall, where you can find calmness, several attractions and lots of good taste. The famous label stores – Cartier, Mont Blanc, H. Stern, Louis Vuitton – make Ipanema’s commerce one of its kind.

Ipanema’s Hippie Fair is visited by tourists of all places in search of the popular expressions of our culture, such as sculptures in bronze and wood, oil paintings, silverware, hand-painted china and leather items.
